After tooth decay, there are generally no other treatment methods besides filling the teeth. The mainstream way of filling teeth nowadays is not only resin filling, but also inlay restoration. Many neighbors are unsure and think that resin and porcelain inlay restorations are similar after completion, but why do doctors sometimes recommend me to use porcelain inlay restorations? Is there any basis for this? The fact is that sometimes porcelain inlay is better than resin

Ceramic inlay restoration is a process of taking a mold based on the shape and depth of the tooth cavity, processing ceramic materials into an inlay that can fill the tooth area, and then sticking it to the tooth cavity to complete the restoration.

Comparing two repair methods, each has its own benefits. Generally speaking, for teeth with fewer defects and less than one-third of the teeth, we recommend using resin restoration because it can be completed in one go without the need for multiple follow-up visits.

If the tooth decay is more severe, but the depth of the crown can be guaranteed and there is still a supporting part of the tooth wall, it is recommended to use porcelain inlay restoration. Due to the large size of cavities, it is difficult to use resin for one-time molding, and it is also difficult to achieve the perfect shape of the original tooth after surgery. However, porcelain inlay is customized by taking molds and can be properly installed and glued to areas with larger caries. And there is also a problem with resin repair, which is that the resin will shrink over time, and there may be slight leakage at the edges after shrinkage. The porcelain inlay will not shrink, so there is basically no such concern.
